I am of the mind that art is a decision that your soul makes. I was with a group of friends last week and sarcastically made a comment about graffiti… I was deeply saddened when I later learned that my comment didn’t come across the way I had thought… I learned that I can’t go around causally being sarcastic, expecting that people just know me and know of how passionate I really am about certain things…

My appreciation, specifically for this medium is such, that I’m of the belief that climbing Mt. Everest with a can or marker and painting a dot on a rock would not make me an artist… I mean, I know it can be argued, but I’d like to take the chance and say right here that the amount of planning and execution that goes into this medium is what inspires me… not to mention, when an individual then shows up, puts in the work and the result is social commentary, thought provoking piece of art. We’re talking about individuals who don’t get scaffolding in the Sistine Chapel… they work in the dark, with the constant threat of authorities who have nothing better to do, but hassle them…

I grew up on While You Were Sleeping and was fortunate to work with that magazine on some stuff a few years back… I’m not trying to be down or co-sign anything, graffiti and the artists who work in this medium do not need any help from me. The history, the legacy, the people who work in this medium sacrifice a lot for their love, it is a lifestyle and is of the utmost respect in my eyes. How we can worship artists like Jean-Michel Basquiat and still arrest artists is beyond me. There are a lot of people who have been working for years and are just getting a look now… I guess “better late than never” but pop culture owes many of these artists an apology and I’d like to start it off by saying… I learned a lesson, I don’t want anyone to ever think that i take their life’s passion lightly. Yes, this all may seem a little cryptic, but I’m sharing what I’ve learned and I appreciate learning in whatever shape or form it may come…

That said… I know I would never pass out with decent pizza anywhere in my vicinity… who does that? Even as I’ve grown up (and now I only eat half a pizza at a time) I’m not really down with your depiction of a “FAT KID” out cold with half eaten slices everywhere. A. It makes me look bad, as if loving pizza makes you pass out like some kind of derelict. & 2. I would NEVER, I repeat NEVER leave a slice unattended… by the way, this just makes your product look less than awesome. FAT KID CO. gimmie a call… I have some genius marketing ideas that don’t involve alienating my people.

I had lunch at RUE 57 the other day… it’s one of the first restaurants I ate at when I first visited New York. Whenever I go there I get this weird feeling, like something really life changing is about to happen… I guess because of the positive changes going on at that point & time in my life… it’s weird because that mind set makes everything there taste pretty amazing.

Time to travel… when you go different places you see variations of things you don’t see at home… of course you do. This is a little number I like to call “Everything I don’t like in a can”.

I take self portraits. It started because I’m alone a lot of the time. I do it now because it’s become a little project… I think setting up a shot, then allowing people to walk into it, not knowing they are part of my picture might be a new addition to this experiment… we’ll see.

**Yes, I know I’ve been wearing the same thing for 2 weeks… that situation is being attended to.

When it grows cold in New York City, or probably anywhere for that matter… the streets get empty… when the streets get empty there’s less noise… when there’s a lack noise I have to re-adjust how I think.
After travel, travel, travel, sitting in the house is fun for approximately 2 days… somewhere around the 53rd hour when I just start to stare at things, I have to get out.

So I took the membership card that my good pal Roberrrto B. got me and went to the MoMA all the way up on 53rd street and looked at what some other people had spent their time creating… I spent about 3 hours walking around and you know how it is when you work out and it feels like nothing is happening? Then the next day you are sore? That’s what happened…

Basically the next day I’d grown a new interest, everywhere I went I saw repetition in a new light. It’s kinda funny… so simple but all of the sudden I was staring at repetition… repetition in it’s relation to choices. While I keep looking everywhere for entertainment, at this time I find myself entirely satisfied with the simple commentary of a multitude of choices… you can often catch me in a deli staring at a bunch of different colors, packages containing the same thing with the slightest little difference, a choice, something fine tuned for each consumer… a dozen flavors… a different use for the same thing… made specifically just for us… so it seems…
My only disclaimer is: This is not an attempt to be interesting… I only desire to be interested…

There’s a limited number of photos because people were getting taken out left and right… it’s some kind of major crime to photograph anything. I wouldn’t ever in a million years say I’m a bad son… though I don’t call my Mom nearly as much as some people call their Moms and it could definitely never be enough for me, I’d talk to my Mom all day long if I could, she’s so amazing… but these days I just don’t get to talk to anyone every single day.
I’m lucky to be as busy as I am right now, there were times where I’ve had nothing… I mean, less than very little and the only thing worse than that is having nothing and nothing to do, because all you do is sit there and wish there was something to take your mind off of the nothingness of everything. Oh come on, I’m not being dismal, I’m just explaining that I’ve accepted the idea of not having tons of “stuff” and made the trade for life experience. I looked in the mirror and said “Dude, get over it, you’re not a money guy, you should try that adventure thing out…”
It seems these days, I’m communicating with the world, and not as much with some of the people I know. I’d like to openly apologize for this and offer a glimpse of where I’ve been when you call… I do love the people in my life more than they could ever understand. I hope wherever we are we are thinking fondly of each other and sharing our best “selves” with those that we meet… When we get see each other we will cherish the time and share what we’ve experienced with each other.
Oh and Mom… I love you, I promise I’ll be home soon.

My friend J.S. from Maryland started this company called Music Skins, they make covers for stuff and the difference is, you can switch the covers out because they aren’t stickers or whatever… it’s some smart technology or something like that. I sent them my logo and they made me one of my own!
It may seem kinda self involved from an outside perspective, but it makes it easy, so you’re not answering the “What’s your DJ name?” question all night long while you’re working…

I always fly first thing in the morning to- and redeye home… it allows me to have a full day on both sides of my trip, but the result is that I’m pretty tired… on the way home I had 3 seats, fell asleep before we took off and woke up to a crazy sideways turn, just before landing. In summary, I’d like to again, apologize to my patient friends and family as they call, text and e-mail… I’m off somewhere meeting a new couple hundred people, in the air, working on some new project… really all I want is, eventually to have the means to fly around and see each and every person I know for a few days at a time. I take pictures and write, not because I’m good at either… I was just always convinced that I needed to have a life that was all “One way” or all the “Other way” and I’m here to tell you it’s a choose your own adventure. It’s a crazy time right now, it seems like every aspect of the world is going through a re-generation/re-configuration all at once, to many to list. I can tell you, traveling around and getting to see it all happen is a real amazing experience. I hope I get the chance to meet everyone…
