Last week was a busy one… I hopped to the West Coast, did another episode of my radio show, DJ’d some, saw some friends skate in Queens, saw some music, had a cook-out with my buddies in Harlem… it was a pretty full week, here’s some pictures…

I DJ’d the opening of LOVE & GUTS
, which was very surreal to say the least… My good buddy Chad had some artwork in the show along with a bunch of people I grew up idolizing. You know, it’s kinda funny… I once again realized the other night, when Pat Ngoho saw my laptop cover and got stoked (my “Frequent Flyer” plane is from the SMA logo on my first deck and Pat had and SMA shirt on) I know it sounds funny, but I was in the room with some of the biggest figures of my youth and all of the sudden they were just a bunch of nice guys… I value niceness over everything.

My buddy, also named Josh, is making some of his own videos. He’s pretty amazing, at 16 he’s already working in bunch of mediums. It’s pretty rad to go uptown and meet a whole group of new people who really inspire me. We talk music and creative talk… I’m always really energized, seeing the world from Josh’s vantage point is awesome. It’s rad to see the new visions come to life… We watched one of my favorite MK pieces featuring Geoff Rowley.

I once told a band “I’m not here to sell you on anything but yourself…” it was weird because, I realized in that moment that I was speaking directly to me… it changed things for me because I can’t walk around saying things I don’t believe. These days I do my best to live those words… because after chasing all kinds of imaginary prizes I know it’s all a waste until I own myself wholly first.

**I sincerely hope you feel the same about yourself.

There are people who say a bunch of stuff, that somehow communicates something entirely different to me than what they are saying… do you know what I mean? You know how you talk to someone and they’re laughing and joking and going on and on and then in return you might join in and somewhere in all the words and gestures and interrupting you can sometimes catch yourself feeling comfortable… I usually find conversations nerve racking and uncomfortable, I wonder if I’m making any sense, I probably sound crazy, I think most of the time people walk away and think “whoa, what is that guy on…”

The other option is… just be quiet, because there’s a lot of ideas going on in the brain of my body and it might sound like a commercial for schizophrenia (did I just spell that correctly and spell check it to find out that I spelled it correctly on the first shot… yes I did). Anyway, if you’ve ever entered into a conversation, to catch yourself with the thought, five minutes in… “I think I lost that person in the first minute” it’s okay, even if you did you’re not alone, some of us appreciate the experience of unbridled thought energy.

I’ve had the privilege of spending a little time with the incredible human being that is Mordechai Rubinstein. This individual is so important to our generation simply for the fact that he is a part, representation and contradiction of subculture and popular culture all at once. Mr. Mort is a student of aesthetic and authenticity without the element of the purist vacuum. Simply put, you can listen to or read what this individual has to say and learn from his studies without feeling belittled or robbed of your own opinion. Why does this matter? Why does this matter even the littlest bit?

This matters because we all study things that are important to us, but your discovery is lost, as far as effect is concerned, if you cannot share it. How many great or inspiring lessons lay dead on the page because we are impatient with others for our lack of understanding of communication and the acceptance curve?

I’d like to thank Mordechai and the people I’m lucky to meet that innately encourage others to just be, be whatever and leave everything to be digested as it may.

A couple days ago I was invited to see a presentation that my friend was a part of… through all of the noise and music and talking and laughing, I left inspired. Inspiration is a most valued currency to me and as I left the confusion to head back to the same streets I walked there on, I noticed something in a different way.
