HEAR.

Sometimes living in New York is like living inside of some weird version of Coachella-Lollapalooza-CMJ thing… Here is a day-by-day, or should I say night-by-night account of the last 7 days…

SUNDAY: I saw a band I really like called SURFER BLOOD play an acoustic set at Other Music and then I saw a full set at Mercury Lounge. They are on tour in the States right now… you can GO SEE THEM.

[TAKE IT EASY]

[ADOLESCENT SOUR MASH]

[JUST THINK IT OVER...]

[HOW'S EVERYTHING COMING ALONG...]

MONDAY: I went out to see my little buddies FREELANCE WHALES play a SOLD OUT show at Williamsburg Hall of Music with The Shout Out Louds… RAD SHOW! LOVE YOU GUYS!

[FREELANCE WHALES]

[SHOUT OUT LOUDS]

I also stopped by Grammercy Theatre to see my friend Mitch’s new band AMERICAN LIVING.

[AMERICAN LIVING]

TUESDAY: I was invited to something that just doesn’t happen every day… my friends Charlotte & David took me to my first show ever at Madison Square Garden… yes, I said first show… I had never been to see anyone there before and for my first show, I saw a guy you might have heard of before named JAY-Z a.k.a HOVA a.k.a JIGGA a.k.a Sean Carter…

Let me share with you how a JAY-Z show works.

[RISES OUT OF THE FLOOR]

[HUGE EXPLOSION OF LIGHT]

[ABOUT 35 MINUTES OF #1 SINGLES]

“Wayne went in, got locked up today…” NO HE DIDN’T!!!

[LIL' WAYNE, YOUNG JEEZY, DRAKE & NICKI MINAJ TAKE OVER FOR A WHILE]

[JAY COMES BACK TO "RE-INTRODUCE" HIMSELF]

[HEART OF THE CITY]

There is just an insane number of hits, all of which everyone sings along to… the show is like a circus, banger after banger… Akon and Trey Songz were there too. I owe a BIG THANKS to my friends for taking me along for an unforgettable experience.

[HARD KNOCK LIFE]

WEDNESDAY: I was invited by the people at the SHORTY AWARDS to DJ their award ceremony which took place at The Times Center. It was a very interesting evening complete with unplanned award show interruptions and colorful characters. Thanks SHORTYS!

[HEY SHORTY]

[SUP DOGG?]

[HEY BUDDY]

THURSDAY: I got to see J.RODDY WALSTON & THE BUSINESS at Mercury Lounge… This band sounds like Woodstock… They are the closest our generation will ever get to Bethel 1969… 100% REAL

[VINTAGE MARSHALL]

[DOIN' ALL KINDS OF EVIL]

[USE YOUR LANGUAGE]

After J.Roddy I ran over to Piano’s where my best buddy Vintz was playing some songs… Hey I heard they might be doing some Jeff Buckley thing on Broadway… is that true? I can’t imagine anyone but this dude singing Buckley songs, for serious…

[ON MY WAY]

[A SONG THAT'S BEEN SUNG]

FRIDAY: NEON INDIAN NEON INDIAN NEON INDIAN NEON INDIAN NEON INDIAN! Crazy packed sold out mayhem at Webster Hall…
GOOD STUFF

[TERMINALLY CHILL]

[CHEERLEADER]

SATURDAY: I ran down to Fontana’s and into another packed room… another incredible show… this RADICAL band KASHMIR. These guys are from Copenhagen so lots of cute Danish girls were at that show… Hello Danish girls.

[ROCKET BROTHERS]

[SURFING THE WARM INDUSTRY]

You have been a busy busy man. :) Thats a lot of bands you’ve seen & heard. And congrads on being able to go to a Madison Square Garden’s show..especially JZ. He’s awesome. It must be fun to be able to go do all the stuff you’ve done..all in one week! One day I want to come to NYC and experience it. I’ve never been there. One day I am going to see NYC…one day. :)

man.. I sure picked the wrong week to try and get up with my buddy. you were a whirlwind around town. I would hear stories about how you were just there and now your gone. A living legend.. the man the myth.. Josh Madden is for real

Wow. I just sat in a studio all week cutting up Grandmaster Flash tracks. Now I feel bad….

I love that you saw Kashmir! They are so great. Thanks for supporting danish bands!

Didn’t you see Neon Indian as well? Or was that the following week?

Haha. Shit man, I’ve never gone to msg, but I will for a JZ show.

Wow..one week. I could live ten lifetimes and still not have a week like that. You spread yourself out for so many and support so much and then share your journey with us. Love this Blog idea!
Anyway..the mum is coming out in me here…..just don’t forget Josh. xx

I love when you post music, I like listening to stuff I probably wouldn’t find on my own. And I like that you post it because you’re excited about it and about music, never to look cool or something like that. You’re “cool” without trying, haha. Excited to hear some new songs on my morning commute tomorrow.

I also just have to say you age in reverse or something. I have trouble believing you are older than Benj and Joel. There’s just no way. I guess a steady diet popchips and SF red Bull is the fountain of youth?

PS. I’d love to see Jay! That looks like it was an amazing show!

You’re a busy man.
I wish I had the time and money to go more shows than I already do.

Trying to make the effort to get away from the computer a bit. Harder than you would think, when I have so many projects to work on.

Wow. I’ve gotta get to NYC. Seriously. This would be like a dream for me. And to think, you do this every single freaking day!

Once again, this goes to show you never take life for granted. Your life is so idealistic to what I’d like mine to be like. You are very…quixotic…and that’s why I love to read your blog. =)

It’s awesome to see someone as excited about music as I am :D Keep it up.
