A couple years ago I went to visit one of my good friends… Bryan Ling had an office in a building down on Hudson street, he’d moved from California for work and I went down to his office every other week or so, sometimes more. I had very little work at the time, I guess you could say I was blessed with a lot of time to figure some things out… however it goes, I went to visit my buddy a lot and we usually just talked about and listened to music. What else is there? haha
One afternoon, I walked in to find him listening to a very rough recording of a very raw track, which basically consisted of tinkering on a guitar… but you know what, it sounded perfect. We sat and listened to this track a few times and Bryan started telling me about this band. He pretty much predicted the future that day, just sat there and said everything that was going to happen in the next two or so years. Today he’s the member of the band who isn’t on stage, some people have managers, Bryan is more like another member of the band. I gotta tell you, I’ve seen it happen a few times and I love it when it does. When two or more people decide collectively to make something happen, dedicate themselves to a movement and bring it to life… for me, there’s nothing like it.
So here we are, a couple years later and this is the band… Edward Shape and The Magnetic Zeros. They are an experience to behold, whether just listening to a recording or witnessing the band in motion, it’s an incredibly moving venture. Below are the first two videos, for songs from their album “Up from Below”. They are in the process of creating a visual for every song on the record, to be eventually viewed as a movie… I’m excited for this band and I’m happy to report that every individual involved with this movement is kinder and sweeter than you could imagine. I’m inspired daily by this group of people. Enjoy.
It’s pretty insane, after the first video I asked, “How can you out do that?” Well the second video is like a movie all on it’s own… If I’m ever half as creative as this collection of creatives, I’ll be very happy.

Nice post, Mr. Madden.
The music is not MY thing, but the videos are pretty extraordinary! Like them. Thanks for sharing

Glad I caught this – strangely it reminds me of Sigur Ros!
